Invitation from SKDC

SKDC Best Kept Village 2022

We are delighted to confirm that we will be running our South Kesteven Best Kept Village Competition again this year to celebrate the community pride and ownership that goes into keeping our villages looking so beautiful.

There is no need to formally enter as we will be automatically inspecting all villages across the district, with judging scheduled for July. Please can you spread the word on the competition within your parishes to encourage residents to keep our villages looking great, knowing that we are ready to recognise their achievements. There are two categories; small villages (100 – 500 residents) and medium villages (501 – 5000 residents)

We will be focused on key areas of village facilities, grounds maintenance and street scene, front gardens and community pride and ownership.

Winning villages will receive cheques in appreciation of their work; £400 for the top award, £300 for second and £200 for third, paid to the Parish Council responsible for the village. Last year many of our winners vowed to invest that money back into village improvements.

In addition, we will award all category winners a framed certificate and top prize winners will receive one of our commemorative gold litter bins. Judges will include representatives from the Lincolnshire Gardens Trust and will assess the village centre along with the main roads in and out – up to the village name signs with villages visited by a ‘mystery shopper’ from our staff.

Only one village per parish will be eligible for a prize and we will only assess measures that are readily visible and do not guarantee to see everything (good or bad)!
