Caythorpe Church Today

Over the past 50 years many thousands of pounds have been spent on essential restoration and repair.  The 2009 Quinquennial Report listed further work on the spire and nave roof as very urgent.  Surveys revealed that the spire was in need of extensive repairs and in addition there was earthquake damage, covered by the church’s insurance, to the spire towards the top.  After much fund raising the spire, tower and south transept have all been restored.  The following charities were most generous in assisting with the work: The Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage, Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN), The Garfield Weston Foundation, The Wolfson Foundation, The Theaker and Godson Funds, PF International Karting, The Trusthouse Foundation, The Allchurches Trust, Caythorpe and Frieston Parish Council, RAF Cranwell and many people in and around the village who gave prizes, donations and gave such good support to our fund raising events.  The works were completed in May 2014. 

Caythorpe Parochial Church Council (PCC) has now been earmarked for an award of £194,800 by the Heritage Lottery Fund Grants for Places of Worship for the re-roofing of the nave and south porch, the installation of a disabled toilet and disabled access.  The funding is also being given for new guides to the church for both adults and children, a war memorial guide and a project with the Sir William Robertson Academy, Welbourn to research the church’s link to “Operation Market Garden”. We have been awarded £7,800 to carry out development work and hope that the delivery stage will take place in 2015.  The John Warren Foundation, Marshall’s Charity, Caythorpe and Frieston Parish Council, an anonymous donor and Friends of St. Vincent’s have also very kindly given grants towards this work.   The National Churches Trust has also promised a grant of £40,000 towards the re-roofing of the nave.

The church is the focal building of the village and is used for many non-religious purposes in addition to its formal services, to mention just a few examples: for Music in Quiet Places, other concerts, Primary School events and for the Festival Singers and Hand Bell group who practice and perform there.
